Corhick Ironpatch was born in the deep gnome village of Wonderstone, nestled within the Undermountain. He grew up in a loving home with his devoted mother, Khilsa, and his proud father, Shidmer.
From a young age, Corhick showed an insatiable curiosity and a knack for crafting tools and trinkets. His talents didn’t go unnoticed. Zillen Scrapgraspor, a renowned tinkerer, saw potential in the eager youth and took him under his wing. Over the course of five years, Zillen trained Corhick in the intricate art of invention and the ways of the artificer. When Zillen retired, he entrusted his workshop—and the hopes of Wonderstone’s future—to Corhick.
With newfound responsibility, Corhick dreamed of elevating Wonderstone’s fortunes. His expeditions for rare materials and ancient texts gave him insight into the broader world, and he believed that opening the village to trade would usher in prosperity. The village leader, Dratrun Goldmoulder, and the council of elders saw the wisdom in Corhick's vision. Under their guidance, Wonderstone blossomed, its gold reserves swelling as trade routes flourished.
However, prosperity attracted danger. Bandits, gnolls, and rival settlements soon turned their greedy eyes toward Wonderstone. Recognizing the threat, Corhick took it upon himself to study the path of the artillerist. He learned to blend eldritch magic with engineering, crafting powerful wooden cannons and handheld prototypes to bolster the village's defenses.
Despite his efforts, the looming threat of Gir Grapplehook, the ruthless leader of a gnoll bandit horde, culminated in a devastating assault on the village. Though the defenses held temporarily, the gnolls’ sheer numbers overwhelmed Wonderstone’s defenders. To protect the villagers, the council ordered an evacuation deeper into the Undermountain.
During the fierce fighting, Corhick suffered a grievous injury, losing his right arm. Refusing to let the loss hinder him, he used salvaged materials to forge a functional metal replacement, a testament to his ingenuity and resilience.
In the aftermath, the council tasked Corhick with a vital mission: venture into the outside world to locate a powerful magical artifact capable of securing Wonderstone’s future.
Though it pained him, Corhick bid farewell to his beloved wife, Meda, his young son, Ditdlet, and his parents. With a heavy heart but determined spirit, he set out into the unknown, driven by the hope of protecting his home and family from future threats.
